Enjoying Giapo’s Edible Art on National Ice Cream Day
When I received a reminder that it was National Ice Cream Day in the United States, I knew something needed to be done immediately. I could not let such an important day of my year slide by simply because I live in New Zealand. So we hopped on the ferry to Auckland in search of something deliciously frozen in a waffle cone. What we found was so much more imaginative and luxurious.
After a quick Google search for the “top ice cream in Auckland,” we were led to none other than Giapo. The personalities behind Giapo take ice cream to a whole new level by introducing gastronomy, art, and New Zealand flavors into their practice. This was not just an ice cream cone, it was a piece of art perfected through the study of humankind’s favorite dessert.
Upon entering the shop, we were greeted by a lovely lady who took the time to explain the menu and exactly what they do there. My eyes lit up at the case displaying all of the different styles of waffle cones! After tasting three flavors, we decided to get the Giapo Buono, the crowd-pleasing best-seller (we can see why!). A genius combination of caramel ice cream, Italian meringue, amaretti, and hazelnut praline reminded me of my mission to taste all of the best ice cream in the world. This was, without a doubt, the most extravagant ice cream cone I have ever eaten in my life.
We will be on the hunt for more Auckland frozen treats, though Giapo may be hard to top. When in Auckland, wander downtown to Gore Street to enjoy true edible art.
Looks delicious! I haven’t been to the new giapo store yet, need to go!
You absolutely need to make it a priority! I’m already dreaming of my next visit.
