Beat Boredom With These 24 Podcasts

Podcasts have completely taken over my life in the last month, replacing music entirely. When I’m out for a run, putting the wash in, making dinner, or mindlessly scrolling through social media, it’s the perfect time to squeeze in an episode. As long as I’m not physically reading, I can listen to a podcast. As a result, I found myself looking forward to my normal boring chores!

My history with this world of entertainment and learning is minimal. Six years ago I got hooked on Serial, never to return because I believed no one’s voice could rival Sarah Koenig’s. Then last year I discovered Call Her Daddy. Then The Office Ladies. And then What We Said.

On brand with most aspects of my life, I went 0-60: Obsession Mode. On my Spotify ‘Podcast’ playlist, I manually add and delete episodes while controlling order. Obviously I can’t listen to four consecutive motivational podcasts, so I sprinkle comedy, sports, literature, and entertainment throughout to switch things up. My playlist is now home to 24 different podcasts.

Below you’ll find a little something for everyone. Here are my 24 current podcasts to beat boredom and start binging!

Entertainment, Comedy, & Lifestyle

The Office Ladies

Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer rewatch every episode of The Office and share memories, behind-the-scenes info, answer fan questions, and give fun facts!

What We Said

Chelsey Jade Curtis and Jaci Marie Smith are two twenty-something best friends living in L.A. They discuss everything under the sun from starting their own businesses to getting married young to veganism to drug addiction.

Call Her Daddy

Alex Cooper and Sofia Franklyn (Sofia with an F, Franklyn with a Y) hold nothing back in this podcast about sex, dating, living in New York, and more sex.

Pretty Big Deal

Ashley Graham is a pretty big deal and so is every one she interviews on her show. If you start from the beginning you’ll enjoy 45-minute long episodes with Kim Kardashian, Gabrielle Union, and Noor Tagouri.

Work in Progress

If you’re like me, you’ve been obsessed with Sophia Bush since you first watched One Tree Hill. She’s smart, passionate, and driven and in the first two episodes she brings on Gloria Steinem and Chelsea Handler to discuss their lives, achievements, and activism.

Happier

Gretchen Rubin is author of The Happiness Project (which I highly recommend), Happier At Home, The Four Tendencies, and many more. In The Happiness Project she delves into her daily habits and how she can make herself an overall happier person. Happier is her podcast on which she talks discusses how we can all lead happier lives.

Even the Rich

Brooke Siffrinn and Aricia Skidmore-Williams tells stories about the greatest, most well-known family dynasties, how they’re just like us, and how they’re not. I’m into the first few episodes where they’re currently telling a narrative of the lives of Meghan Markle and Princess Diana, how they became royals, and what it was like for them.

Codeswitch

Shereen Marisol Meraji and Gene Demby converse about race, culture, and diversity and how it affects every aspect of society. (Favorite Episode so far: No. 2: Made For You and Me)

The Art of Charm

The guys behind The Art of Charm aim to improve every aspect of life from your self-esteem, to how to perform at work, to your love life. The Art of Charm doesn’t only teach charisma, but how to embrace the best version of yourself.

The Side Hustle Show

Nowadays it seems like everybody has a side hustle. The Side Hustle Show “is a top-rated podcast featuring the ideas, actions, and results you need to start and grow a successful business.”

Literature & Writing

Swish and Flick

My reading of the Harry Potter series three times cannot compare to the ladies behind Swish and Flick. They are proper Potterheads. Rereading the entire series (off air), they dissect each chapter per episode. It’s a fun way to reread the series at a slow pace.

Grammar Girl

Sometimes I just wanna talk good. Grammar Girl’s episodes are quick. She gives fast easy tips on how to speak and write better while discussing history and changes of various phrases like “graduate college” vs. “graduated from college” (Ep. 1).

What Should I Read Next

I fortunately discovered Anne Bogel on Instagram! Each episode she interviews a guest asking their favorite books, least favorite books, and then she gives three recommendations on what they should read next based on their answers.

Inside Creative Writing

Brad Reed explains various techniques to focus on in your creative writing. Episode One: Fictionalizing Your Audience discusses ways to invite your reader to be an active participant in the story rather than merely a passive onlooker.

Sports

The Pat McAfee Show

Retired Colts punter Pat McAfee hilariously talks football and life in the NFL every week with his friends and guests.

Fantasy Footballers

Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright talk all things fantasy football down to a play-by-play decision-making process of the draft.

New England Patriots Press Pass

Is it obvious which NFL team I support? They analyze each week’s games as well as specific players.

Patriots Unfiltered

Listen to game highlights as well as NE news.

Tara Higgins

Tara Higgins

Tara loves all things London and wants to spend the rest of her life reading books in beautiful places. She can often be found nestled up in a bookshop, drinking a pint at the pub, or searching for the best pizza slice in town.
