Walking Along The White Cliffs of Dover
Greetings from across the pond! We landed safely and soundly at Heathrow, made our way quickly to our rental car and sped off toward Dover.
For as long as I have wanted to take a road trip around England, I have dreamt of setting eyes upon the white cliffs of Dover. Severely exhausted from the flight through the night, I slept nearly the entire car ride south. When we arrived in Dover, I awoke excited and ill-prepared for the beautiful view that was before me!
The walk from the carpark to the end of the trails along the top of the cliffs take approximately 50 minutes. If you’re like me and stop to take oodles of photographs (or like Ben and fail to wear proper shoes and you fall in the mud then need to turn around to change shoes), it will definitely take much longer than 50 minutes to reach the lighthouse.
I could not have hoped for a more beautiful day. The sky and water were turquoise, the long grass golden, and the sun was shining wondrously. I was even able to see France for the first time.
We continued our afternoon at The Zetland Arms in Deal before spending the night at the most lovely pub, Duke William Inn in Ickham.
My first day seeing England by car and venturing out beyond my beloved London was an immense success!
Recommendations:
- Wear hiking boots
- Spend the night in Ickham at Duke William Inn. It is truly a lovely pub and the accommodation is a steal!
I’ve been to London a few times but I haven’t had the opportunity to do much exploring outside of the city. These pictures make me want to head south. So beautiful. :]
I was the same as you! Only ever traveling further south for a school trip to Brighton. Dover is worth it!
I remember visiting Dover as a child, this post took me right back. Lovely pictures and a really to the point post, hope you enjoyed your trip!
What an impressive view from across the pond! I will need to make this a stop when planning my Europe trip!
