Read To Travel

The Unread Shelf Project of 2018

I am the guiltiest person when it comes to buying an endless array of books only to leave a majority of them unread.  This is for two reasons.  First, I sincerely dislike “searching for my next read.”  I want to have a massive choice every time I finish a book.  Second, I love buying books more than anything else in the world.  As I delved deep into the accounts of Instagram for some book-spiration, I stumbled across a new account called TheArdentBiblio (which I now follow!).  The literary website and account is run by Rikki and Michaela.  They introduced me to The Unread Shelf Project of 2018.

Since I tend to travel for 6-12 months at a time, reading constantly from my unread bookshelf is next to impossible.  I usually live in different places for a few weeks or months, like England, Ireland, and Virginia, or take long road trips, like in New Zealand or the United States.  Sometimes I even move to new countries for a year or more like New Zealand.  Every time I return to the US, I try to take way more books from my unread shelf than I can possibly carry.  I am moving across the world in February for at least nine months.  Still, I am going to take part in the Unread Bookshelf Project while I can.

As of Friday, I am living in Virginia for the next four weeks.  An ambitious 13 books from my stored bookshelf in New England are here with me.  The goal is to read as many as possible so that I am left with a reasonable number to pack for my next adventure.  Here are the players in my Unread Shelf Project of 2018!

1.  The Stand by Stephen King – 2 years on unread shelf

Tara, The Stand is in my top five right behind. To Kill a Mockingbird, The Hobbit and LOTR. Just saying, I do the same with purchasing books. Barbara has been known to donate books to Goodwill before I have ever open them.

I’ve been waiting to commit to The Stand for SO LONG!! My brother and I actually have a pact since I was 15 or 16 that we would read all of Stephen King’s books in order of publication. Needless to say, I’ve been stuck at The Stand for a few years.

I try to go through some books whenever I am back home in California… it’s just so hard! Not to mention that many of my unread ones are large hardcovers which are so heeeavy (I’ve gotten so spoiled with my Kindle).
