Te Ara Hura Walking Trail: Oneroa Beach to Owhanake Bay
The Te Ara Hura walking trail is a beautiful web of coastal and bush tracks around Waiheke Island. Depending on which track you opt to walk, you will either be near a cafe, a secluded beach, or a vineyard. After a quiet breakfast in Oneroa, I decided to head down to the beach and walk Oneroa Beach. This is the town’s main beach and, typically, it’s full of sunbathers, swimmers, standup paddle boarders, and everything in between during the summer months. Past the herds, right before the sand ends, is the quiet spot where I decided to enjoy the ocean to myself for a bit.
Te Ara Hura continues through the woods after that. Several wrong turns later, I found myself lost very quickly. The trail was supposed to direct me inland toward the main road, but I ended up running through someone’s vineyard and backyard while attempting not to be seen. Eventually, I made it back in the right direction toward Owhanake where the walk goes coastal. The views were absolutely stunning. If you have the opportunity to take this walk while on Waiheke Island, do it.
