My First Day Back in London After Two Years

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I arrived at London Gatwick Airport bright and early yesterday morning for the first time in years.  I pranced through customs after they let me through, excited to get home.  In college, I studied abroad in London for a semester and my Waterloo flat became my home away from home.  It is without a doubt my favorite city in the entire world (that I have visited thus far).  It is a place that taught me important lessons about love, life, and myself.  The city dances with life, overflows with history, and is culturally–and therefore culinarily–diverse with so many layers to it.  Being back here feels like a breathe of fresh air.

I opted to book a hostel in South Kensington and could not be more thrilled with my choice.  I wandered mostly through Kensington and Chelsea, up toward Notting Hill and through Portobello Road.  For dinner I headed to Covent Garden because I absolutely needed to try the magical delight that is Milk Train.  I revisited the Waterloo area, my old building, bus stop, regular Sainsbury, and the Wellington Pub that serves my favorite dish of bangers and mash.  I strolled through the lively circus of Southbank which has a huge outdoor festival going on right now and then I hopped on the tube where my jet lag and 14 mile walking day put me to sleep on my way back to West London.

I know, I know.  I still have months of adventures to fill you in on and now I’m starting a new one!  We will return to the regular programming very soon, but I’m just so jazzed and filled with happiness after my day that I wanted to share my snapshots.
