7 Photos That Will Make You Want To Visit County Galway Ireland

Rolling green hills, old stone walls, and well-traveled pathways cover the dreamy landscape of western Ireland.  I was fortunate enough to travel to County Galway to study Gaelic, practice my dancing, and make new friends.  Over the course of four weeks, we explored the villages, downtown Galway, the Aran Islands, the countryside, and–of course–all of the pubs we could find.  This is by far one of Ireland’s most beautiful regions.  If you have not visited yet, you need to.  Here are 7 photos that will make you want to visit County Galway!

1. Inis Oirr, Aran Islands

Inis Oirr is smallest of the three Aran Islands resting off the coast of western Ireland in Galway Bay. [pronounced: “In-ish eer”]

2. An Cheathrú Rua

Charming houses like this can be found throughout small western Irish towns. I found this one on a walk to the beach.

3. Conamara National Park – The Climb

Conamara National Park was my absolute favorite day trip while in Galway! The red trail takes you up into the clouds.

4. Kylemore Abbey

This is a gorgeous abbey in Conamara was founded in 1920 and is home to the Benedictine nuns.

5. Trá na Reilig

A graveyard beach in An Cheathrú Rua, this beautiful old church was built overnight by a saint in the 1500s.

6. Trá an Doilín

This photo is from arguably the most beautiful day I saw while in Galway. My friends actually got a sunburn on this day. It is a lovely coral beach with calming blue water.

7. Conamara National Park – The Descent

Once again, Conamara National Park is a must-see in Ireland. The hike is fun, the achievement fulfilling, and the descending views breathtaking. As we walked down from the clouds we were able to see Kylemore Abbey!

Have you been to County Galway?

OMG!! Beautiful!! I spent a week in Dublin back in August and everyone told me to go to Galway, but my accommodations were already booked and I really like being in one place for a while. This is totally on my list for my next Ireland visit! Your photos are gorgeous 🙂
